Event hosts
Event hosts act like organizers, they arrive ahead of time, open up the room, ensure events run smoothly, ensure the food arrives on time, announce the speakers, credit the sponsors and what TorontoJS is, ensure where people know where the toilets are, and most importantly, are a point of contact for all who want to attend events.
Panel facilitators / Conversation facilitators
Facilitators announce and introduce speakers, engage attendees in Q&A, and maintain a welcoming and safe environment for both speakers and Toronto JS members. You don't need to have the personality of a talk show host to be a conversation facilitator, more often, being a good listener ends up leading to being a great facilitator!
Pathfinder
You stand at the door and count how many people arrived, open the door for people if the building is closed after hours, or guide people to the correct spot for the talk in the case of having outdoor events.
Food and Beverage Runner
Ensure the food arrives at the event on time and hang onto the receipts. There will be a food budget.
Ensure non-alcoholic drink options arrive at the event on time.
Ensure no one takes more than the serving allotted for attendees
Event Setup/Takedown
Ensures the chairs or furniture are arranged for gatherings and put back into place after, and sadly, any trash left by attendees is cleaned up.
Speakers
We wouldn't have any workshops or talks without speakers! If you would like to propose a talk, activity or workshop, or host a panel, please tell us about it here or in #orgmode!
This role has the hard job of preparing, practicing and delivering the talk. However, you sit back and let the organizers, hosts and facilitators do the promotion and crowd control at the event!
